Mixing...

Back in Raw Studio with Chris, Scoop and engineer, J.C, cutting some final mixes on the songs. We've had a few weeks to listen to the first mixes and heard just a few small things we wanted to improve. When tracking, we cut the basic tracks -guitar, bass, drums- live, then spent a few weeks recording vocals and overdubs. We wanted to keep that live vibe and not get cut-up and over-polished in the mix process. After hearing those first mixes though, I felt that we overdid the raw angle -or I guess underdid it. So, this time around, we are bringing out those backing vocals and spreading them out a little more in the stereo field. Besides that, we are just adjusting a few levels -bring up a guitar here, a snare drum there, blah blah. Its the tedious part of recording, but key. You can't mix a shitty song into a great song, but a bad mix on a killer song will make your dick go limp.

Still, its fun to hear everything back again LOUD on the nice monitors. I'm pretty happy with the guitar tone on this one too. I used a lot of fuzz from this vintage Big Muff pedal and it sounds sweet -it just wraps you in this warm, electric blanket and makes you drunk on sonic mud.

At this point, Chris is getting annoyed with us picking at all the parts too much. Its time to put this bitch to bed! Still some of it is that we are coming up on the very end of the project and I'm sorry to see it end and let go. Our little baby is all grows up and now its this ugly mad scientist.
